IHS Towers Releases 2023 Sustainability Report
IHS Holding Limited, a leading global owner and operator of shared communications infrastructure, has published its 2023 Sustainability Report.
This report details the company's sustainability efforts throughout 2023, highlighting its commitment to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) best practices.
Sustainability Strategy Delivers Results
The report outlines IHS Towers' four-pillar sustainability strategy, which focuses on creating long-term value for stakeholders. This commitment is reflected in their continued investments in community initiatives, exceeding $29 million since 2017.
Environmental Progress
IHS Towers made considerable progress in reducing their environmental footprint through Project Green, the current phase of their Carbon Reduction Roadmap. This resulted in a 6% decrease in Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions intensity compared to 2022.
The company also expanded the use of hybrid power systems at their sites, with nearly half now powered by a combination of diesel generators and renewable sources like solar and battery systems.
Social Responsibility
IHS Towers prioritises social responsibility through various initiatives. In 2023, they invested $7 million in community-focused projects, improved road safety with a 7% reduction in accident rates, and increased female representation in both employee and management positions. Also, they strengthened their commitment to education through partnerships with UNICEF and the Limitless Space Institute.
Strong Governance Practices
IHS Towers maintains strong governance practices, achieving ISO 37001 Anti-Bribery Management System certification. Their ESG Risk Rating from Morningstar Sustainalytics places them among the top 16% of telecommunication service companies.
