Grant Thornton Publishes New ESG Report

Grant Thornton LLP, a major audit, tax, and advisory firm in the U.S., recently shared its fifth annual Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Report, highlighting their progress in sustainability and diversity goals.

The report talks about Grant Thornton's efforts to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, aiming for a 55% cut by 2030 and net-zero emissions by 2050. They also got assurance on their GHG inventories for 2019 and 2022.

Seth Siegel Grant Thornton's CEO, said, "Focusing on sustainability is good for the planet and can improve collaboration within our firm and success with our clients."

The report notes two diversity milestones ahead of schedule: 40% of top leaders are women or from diverse backgrounds, and half of the "hot-skills" training involves diverse participants.

Grant Thornton is also intensifying efforts to recruit from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs). They have renewed support for the Thurgood Marshall College Fund and boast strong engagement from their workforce in various initiatives.

Rashada Whitehead, the firm's national managing principal of Culture, Immersion & Inclusion, said: "We have made great progress toward our diversity goals and are on track to continue the positive momentum."

The report underlines Grant Thornton's commitment to professional development, earning recognition for upskilling programmes and blended learning. They focus on internal training, digital badges, and initiatives promoting belonging and addressing unconscious bias.

In creating the ESG report, Grant Thornton followed established guidelines like the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Standards, Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB), and Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD). Their efforts align with relevant United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (U.N. SDGs).
