LRQA, a prominent global assurance partner, has officially validated Bridgestone's inaugural carbon-neutral tyre manufacturing facility in Chakan, Pune, India.

Bridgestone, a worldwide leader in tires and sustainable mobility solutions, has achieved this milestone after undergoing a rigorous assessment of scope 1 and 2 emissions, ensuring compliance with the international PAS 2060 standard.

This verification marks a momentous achievement in Bridgestone's unwavering quest to decarbonise its manufacturing operations. It closely aligns with the company's overarching global objective of achieving carbon neutrality for scopes 1 and 2 by 2050.

Additionally, Bridgestone has set an ambitious target to reduce CO2 emissions from its operational activities by an impressive 50% by 2030, compared to the 2011 baseline.

The Pune manufacturing facility, which boasts an annual production of over 4 million tyres, has managed to reduce its overall carbon footprint by an astounding 94% over the years.

This remarkable feat has been accomplished through a series of strategic initiatives, including the installation of solar panels on-site and the adoption of a carbon-neutral biomass-based boiler plant that utilises biomass briquettes derived from agricultural waste.

To offset the facility's emissions of 2,974 tonnes of CO2, Bridgestone India has embarked on an innovative initiative by acquiring Verified Carbon Standard credits from Acme, India.

This forward-looking endeavour revolves around a bundled solar photovoltaic project designed to harness solar energy via panels, contributing power to various regional grids in multiple Indian states, including Telangana, Uttarakhand, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan.

As an integral aspect of the PAS 2060 verification process, the facility has committed to an ambitious three-year plan aimed at further reducing CO2 emissions. Bridgestone remains resolute in its dedication to environmental sustainability and the reduction of its carbon footprint, setting an exemplary standard for the industry.
