Beryl Champions Sustainability with Major Report

The renowned UK shared mobility provider, Beryl, has unveiled its latest report, underscoring its exceptional contributions to fostering behavioural change, promoting sustainability, and positively impacting lives.

The inaugural Beryl Impact Report for 2023 outlines the comprehensive measures implemented by the company to ensure that sustainability remains at the core of its operations.

The report emphasises the paramount significance of individuals and communities, with Beryl demonstrating a steadfast commitment to championing gender equality and diversity.

Currently, Beryl maintains a gender distribution of one-third of female employees, boasting a 20% pay gap favouring women and a remarkable 25% of female staff actively participating in company-wide decision-making processes.

As a certified B Corp company, Beryl is resolutely dedicated to reducing its own carbon footprint, an objective realised through a range of innovative projects and operational practices. Notably, they power a substantial 71.52% of their operations using low-impact renewable energy sources while achieving a commendable 89.46% reduction in gas usage, replacing the remaining gas needs with biogas.

Furthermore, the company's influence extends to promoting behavioural shifts, particularly advocating for a circular economy and endorsing a "hire and share" model in contrast to a traditional "buy and own" approach. Beryl's relentless efforts to encourage shared transportation utilisation are instrumental in instigating circular behaviour within the transportation sector and broader society.

Phil Ellis, the CEO and co-founder of Beryl, affirmed, "For companies like ours, whose entire ethos and long-term strategy revolve around sustainability and carbon reduction, it is imperative to lead by example.

"The release of this report underscores our unwavering commitment, not only as a green transportation provider but also as a responsible business, in supporting the UK government's ambitious goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

"Moreover, it reflects our deep-rooted value for individuals and communities and our unshakable belief in the transformative potential of sustainable transportation to enhance lives. Publishing this report also demonstrates our dedication to transparency and accountability, both crucial components of our mission to inspire the adoption of cleaner, greener transportation habits."

In June 2023, Beryl successfully attained the ISO 14001 environmental management standard, an internationally recognised framework for Environmental Management Systems (EMS) used by organisations to identify, manage, monitor, and control environmental processes.

Back in October 2022, the company's short-term sustainability targets received validation from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), a globally recognised network for corporations pursuing ambitious climate action and guiding the transition toward a carbon-neutral economy.

In 2022, Beryl was recertified as a B Corp registered enterprise for an additional three years, a testament to the company's unwavering commitment to maintaining exceptional standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency.

The Paris Agreement has established long-term objectives that guide all nations in substantially reducing global greenhouse gas emissions. The ultimate goal is to limit the global temperature increase this century to 2°C, with efforts to restrict it even further to 1.5°C.

The UK government, in alignment with the Net Zero Strategy: Build Back Greener document, has set forth ambitious plans to meet stringent emission reduction targets.
