The ongoing climate crisis and calls for social justice continue to place pressure on UK employers to seriously consider the Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) impact of their business. Doing so not only maintains attractiveness to shareholders, customers and top talent but also demonstrates ethical commitment to non-financial business objectives.

However, monitoring and reporting mechanisms are vague and have lacked clearly defined metrics, according to the Financial Reporting Council (2023). The UK Government has therefore announced plans to offer greater consistency and standardised frameworks in this area. In coming together to exchange ideas for transforming traditional business practices, companies will be best placed to get ahead of the legislative changes in corporate disclosure.
