Organisations are now operating in a changing world, with the growing challenges of climate change, transitioning to a circular economy, and inequality. There is now a need to consider environmental and social considerations and have the necessary governance framework in place to support them.

Recent EU rules require companies to publish regular transparent reports on the social and environmental risks they face and detailing how their activities impact people and the environment. The new Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) modernises and strengthens the rules concerning the social and environmental information that companies have to report. It is important to understand the latest regulatory developments and make sure your organisation is in line to meet compliance requirements.

The social or ‘S’ element of ESG cuts across many business areas, including social trends, supply chain management and ethical practices. The ‘S’ has traditionally been difficult to measure, however, emerging technologies are helping to gain better insights into ESG data and outcomes. Governance also plays a key role in embedding environmental and social practices throughout the organisation.

ESG investing is witnessing huge growth as investors demand sustainable and responsible use of their assets. A recent survey found that fewer than one-third of Irish Financial Services companies were fully adhering to EU compliance rules around ‘green’ investments.
