Key Takeaways

  • The Green Performance Pledge (GPP) reached its third year.

  • Over 100 tenants have reduced their energy consumption and waste through participation in the GPP.

  • The GPP helps tenants in implementing sustainable practices in their offices.

Swire Properties’—a property developer in Hong Kong and Mainland China—Green Performance Pledge (GPP) is celebrating another successful year.

The programme, which encourages office tenants to adopt sustainable practices, has seen participation from over 100 businesses across Taikoo Place, Pacific Place, and Citygate.

These businesses have cut electricity use by almost 7,50,000 kilowatt-hours—that is like powering 227 Hong Kong homes. Also, they diverted over 200 tonnes of waste from landfills by reusing and recycling. Tools like smart meters and waste solutions helped them achieve these results.

The GPP helps landlords and tenants collaborate on sustainability. Over 50% of office spaces in Swire Properties' Hong Kong buildings are now part of this programme. This includes new tenants at Six Pacific Place and most tenants at Two Taikoo Place. The programme has also expanded to mainland China.

To celebrate, Swire Properties held a special event with over 170 people. Several businesses won awards for their great work. Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, Greater Bay Airlines, Kennedys, LVMH Fragrance Brands, Securities and Futures Commission, and Veolia got top honours for their sustainable offices. Swire Coca-Cola Limited won an award for its office design.

Other businesses were recognised for saving energy, cutting waste, and improving their results. These include Atlas Air and Polar Air Cargo, CITIC CLSA, Crédit Agricole Corporate and Investment Bank, Greater Bay Airlines, HKT, LVMH Fragrance Brands, NetApp (Hong Kong) Limited, PAG, The Executive Centre, and Triton International Limited.

Don Taylor, Director, Office at Swire Properties said, “We’re delighted to see the rapid growth in the number of tenants participating in the GPP, and are fully committed to collaborating closely with our entire office community to assist with their sustainability and ESG efforts, to drive significant improvements in energy, waste and water reduction.

"In the three years since its launch, we’ve already achieved our 2025 goal of having 50% of our Hong Kong and Chinese Mainland office tenants sign up to drive collective change. The GPP not only provides tools to improve our collective ESG performance, it also serves as an effective platform where we can share our experience and knowledge to have a bigger impact.

"Moving forward, we’ll continue to enhance the GPP through innovation and technology, which will generate more analytics capability, performance benchmarking and offer greater insights to help our tenants define and achieve their sustainability goals so that working together, we can make a more positive impact.”
