The Netherlands has been known for its windmills and as an innovator in wind energy since the 1970s.

The country has recently introduced a new, smaller, and more efficient wind turbine for urban houses called the LIAM F1 UWT.

Wind Energy and Netherlands

The nation faced severe air pollution from diesel and petrol cars and carbon emissions from natural gas and coal power plants until the 1970s. Afterwards, it started investing increasingly in renewable energy technology, and today, it is one of the frontrunners in wind energy.

The new silent, small wind turbines are specially designed for home use in cities. They produce between 300 and 2,500 kWh of electricity, around 50 per cent of what a household requires.

Innovation and Small Turbines

The advantage of these new wind turbines is that they do not need a lot of space, unlike larger ones. Also, large turbines can disrupt the migration of birds or spoil landscapes, whereas smaller turbines can fit on rooftops and capture weaker winds in city areas.

Pairing with Solar Energy

The new wind turbines work well with solar panels, too. Their combination will help urban dwellers use less energy from the grid, reduce pollution and cut down on power bills. They can convert 88 per cent of wind energy into usable power.

The introduction of the new, efficient wind turbines by the Netherlands is an addition to Europe's efforts to switch to renewable energy, like wind and solar, to reduce CO2 emissions and make the future more sustainable and inhabitable.
