STMicroelectronics has inked a 15-year contract with TotalEnergies in France as part of its global renewable energy strategy.
This is the first time a long-term contract for renewable power has been signed in France.
TotalEnergies, a global integrated energy and petroleum company, has signed a 15-year deal with STMicroelectronics, a high-tech company creating semiconductor technologies, to supply the latter with renewable electricity.
STMicroelectronics will be supplied 1.5 terawatt-hours (TWh) of renewable electricity to power its sites in France, including its research and development, manufacturing, and sales operations.
Sophie Chevalier, Senior Vice President Flexible Power & Integration at TotalEnergies, said: "We are delighted to sign this agreement with STMicroelectronics, which demonstrates our ability to provide long-term and innovative clean firm power solutions tailored to our customers' needs.
"TotalEnergies aims to be a preferred partner to support tech industry players towards their decarbonization efforts, and this agreement showcases our commitment and capabilities.”
TotalEnergies' two new wind and solar farms will supply the energy, each having a 75 MW capacity. The power produced by these sources can fluctuate depending on the weather conditions. However, TotalEnergies uses special services to guarantee the uninterrupted supply of green energy to STMicroelectronics.

This is the first time in France that such a long-term contract has been signed for renewable energy supply. For STMicroelectronics, this agreement plays a larger role in achieving its carbon neutrality goals by 2027, which also include sourcing 100% of its energy from renewable sources.
Geoff West, EVP and Chief Procurement Officer at STMicroelectronics, added: "This first PPA in France marks yet another important step towards ST’s goal of becoming carbon neutral in its operations (Scope 1 and 2 emissions, and partially scope 3) by 2027, including the sourcing of 100% renewable energy by 2027."

It also supports STMicroelectronics' decarbonisation goals and reduces the environmental impact of its operations. They have already signed similar agreements in Italy and Malaysia as part of their global renewable energy strategy.
