India Leading in AI-Driven Sustainability, Says IBM Report
The report suggests ways to confront sustainability challenges.
There is an overwhelming response from Indian businesses and their leaders to achieve sustainability goals through AI.
A report released by IBM notes that India is ushering in sustainability through artificial intelligence (AI) and plans to make more investments in IT to achieve sustainability goals over the next 12 months.
Most Indian business leaders (96%) plan to invest more in the IT sector and believe this investment helps achieve environmental goals, long-term business resilience (61%), and brand reputation (64%).
Sandip Patel, Managing Director of IBM, India/South Asia, said: "As sustainability becomes central to business growth strategies, AI is proving to be a game-changer in driving responsible growth."
64% of Indian businesses are already leveraging AI to meet sustainability targets, as generative AI provides insights into developing sustainable business strategies and ways to reduce carbon emissions.

“India stands out as a leader in AI-driven sustainability. Business leaders across the country view sustainability as a strategic lever for transformation, and IBM is advancing AI solutions to help accelerate their sustainability goals,” Patel said.
The report also says that water usage is a specific challenge for Indian companies. Some of the other main highlights from the report: 54% integrate sustainability into business models to innovate and grow; 81% are proactive about climate resilience; and 79% have advanced systems in place to track sustainability efforts through data.
The report also suggests that companies improve sustainability by adopting AI tools tailored to their needs, identifying opportunities for improvement, and collecting and analysing data to align perspectives between top-level executives and other decision-makers.
