Coca-Cola Vietnam Pilots Green Pallets Made from Coffee Husks

- The pilot has already attracted the UN, the Australian government, and other stakeholders from around the world.
- AirX Carbon, which manufactures the pallets, is operating its factory near Ho Chi Minh City, producing 1.5 million green pallets a year.
- If produced in large numbers, they will save millions of trees from being felled, reduce waste, and cut enormous amounts of carbon emissions.
Coca-Cola Vietnam ('the company') is testing eco-friendly pallets made from agricultural waste, an initiative aimed at developing sustainable, carbon-negative material products.
The green pallets, also known as NetZero Pallets, are being tested at the company's automated warehouse in Vietnam, where they are made from agricultural waste, such as coconut fibre and coffee husks, unlike those made from wood, plastic, or toxic materials.
With this initiative, the company aims to replace 10.3 million conventional pallets with NetZero Pallets by 2029.

AirX Carbon, the organisation that makes the world's first carbon-negative material made from coffee, has created NetZero Pallets. Its CEO, Le Thanh, says their products, especially these pallets, have attracted foreign companies, including NPC Korea, Hyosung, Olam International, and Pakko Australia, showing an increasing interest in green solutions.
Besides, reputed institutions such as UNDP, Switch Asia, GIZ, Action on Poverty, and Helvetas are also endorsing this pallet technology, said Le Thanh.
The pallets are known to capture carbon dioxide (CO₂) from the atmosphere, with each one capable of storing up to 34 kilograms of CO₂ — a climate solution that helps fight the climate crisis.
Not just that, by expanding their production, a huge heap of agricultural waste can be diverted from landfills, repurposed for sustainable solutions, and subsequently resolve waste management issues in rural areas.
According to AirX Carbon's enumeration, the production of 60 million pallets has a positive impact on the environment by saving 10 million trees, recycling 2 million metric tonnes of agricultural waste, and storing up to 7 million metric tonnes of CO₂.

Local communities will benefit the most from their production, generating income for over 600,000 farmers and rural workers and improving the livelihoods of people living in the countryside.
AirX Carbon’s factory in Binh Duong Province, near Ho Chi Minh City, is presently producing them with a yearly capacity of 1.5 million pallets.
