Coca-Cola Invests €20m in 100% Recycled Plastic Bottle
Coca-Cola Co

Coca-Cola has made an exciting announcement, revealing that all plastic bottles for its soft drink products in both Ireland and Northern Ireland now consist of 100% recycled plastic.
These sustainable bottles will be utilised for the entire range of Coca-Cola offerings, including favourites like Coca-Cola Original Taste, Coca-Cola Zero Sugar, and other beverages owned by the company, such as Fanta and Sprite.
This noteworthy achievement in sustainability is set to have a significant impact on the island of Ireland, leading to the removal of an additional 7,100 tonnes of virgin plastic from circulation on an annual basis.
Coca-Cola has committed substantial resources, with over €20 million invested in recent years, both in developing eco-friendly packaging solutions by enhancing the Coca-Cola HBC plant in Lisburn and procuring recycled plastic materials.
This investment has paved the way for groundbreaking packaging innovations, including the shift to 100% recycled plastic, along with the recent introduction of the KeelClip packaging solution to the market.
Coca-Cola's decision to embrace this eco-friendly approach is part of a broader strategy aimed at aligning with upcoming changes, notably the Deposit Return Scheme (DRS) set to be implemented in the region early next year.
Agnese Filippi, Country Manager at Coca-Cola Ireland, emphasised the significance of this milestone in realising the company's vision of a "World Without Waste."
She expressed the company's commitment to further reduce their packaging footprint and collaborate with Irish consumers, government bodies, and local authorities to establish a truly circular economy for their plastic bottles and cans. Coca-Cola Ireland recognises its responsibility and the opportunity to drive meaningful change as the leading beverage brand on the island.
